Booknotes - Downstream in the Bookstore
by Sammie Alijagic
If you’ve visited the Unity (Metaphysical) Bookstore in the past 2 months, you may have seen the little purple signs that say: “Our books are entering into their realignment, please experience patience.” What this means is Doris Stremel has retired (though she, Jim and her mom are at Sunday services weekly) and her replacement, Sammie Alijagic, is adding her own personal touches. So, things are being shifted around.
DOWNSTREAM IN THE CANOE: As in all things, change can be uncomfortable. “I know,” said Sammie, “that with the Light and enthusiasm of the volunteers, friends and clients, it is continuing to grow as a place that is an enjoyable place to be, useful and comfortable. It will continue to be the jewel of which Doris and others are so proud.”
HOW ARE THE BOOKS ARRANGED? We rotate featured artists, authors and topics in our front floor displays. That’s where you’ll find our large selection of materials from the Teachings of Abraham, by Esther and Jerry Hicks, and the books of Dr. Wayne Dyer. Currently on display, also, are Julia Cameron, creativity guru Yogananda, Dr. Andrew Weil, and an old friend, Louise Hay with her colorful line of books on healing thinking.
We have hundreds of Unity publications some in Spanish.
Little gift items, inspiration cards and calendars will soon be stocked for holiday sparkle.
We’re expanding our line of spoken word CDs.
PRAYER TABLE: While you’re at the bookstore please know that you can head over to the little round table and write a prayer. Tuck it in the brown basket. Unity prayer chaplains and the ministers will pray them, as will visitors to the store.
COLLABORATE: Input is a marvelous thing and makes for creative collaboration. What is it you need more of? Titles? Topics? Activities? Information? Please leave us a note. Or drop in and chat with one of our Angels and they will leave a note for the bookstore steward.
BE IN PEACE: New volunteers/Angels are always welcome. Mornings stints are 9:00 am-12:30 pm; afternoons 12:30-4:00 pm . or, a few hours here and there. It’s a peaceful and uplifting environment. If you would like to experience it weekly, monthly or as a one-time event, then, do!
