January and Februar artists | Don Weber & Sheila Hamann

Artist, Don Weber has been a full time artist since arriving in Tucson from Denver in 1979. For 12 years he took workshops from this country’s best artists in California, Colorado, New Mexico, Tucson and in particular the Scottsdale Artists’ School at Scottsdale.

He taught art for 13 years — portraiture and landscape — in oils, acrylics, and pastel at Pima Community College, Green Valley, Sun City, Saddlebrook and elsewhere. His paintings are on display at various art galleries in Arizona.

Artist, Sheila Hamann - Watercolors and acrylics are Sheila’s preferred media, and she often uses them both in the same painting. Watercolor pourings provide a novel background. Rather than impose an idea onto the paper, she looks to the colors or shapes that have formed in the pouring to suggest a theme, then uses watercolor or acrylic to paint the subject.

Animals are her favorite subject, as is the desert. Animals have a straightforward connection with Nature, yet there is such mystery in the lives of wild creatures. Sheila honors them in her work with a somewhat mystical portrayal of them.
