President’s Message
by Jim Stremel
As I mentioned in the past, one of my intentions is to keep the congregation informed about Board of Directors activities as the year progresses. So I am going to go over a few of the things discussed in our recent meetings.
We had the privilege of voting in new members and trust they will enjoy their membership as much as we enjoyed meeting and discussing Unity with them. We have recently had the meditation path repaired and dressed up a bit. Have you had a chance to try it out yet? It is a bit of a walking challenge for some of us not in the best of shape but it is worth it. Just be aware that there are some steep parts to the path and the weather is getting warmer. Our hats off to the Building and Grounds Committee for pursuing it. Speaking of recent successes, the SOFIA Women’s Retreat was reported to have been a great success and all who participated felt it was very worthwhile.
As you may be aware we are also in the planning process of expanding Unity’s day school to take one-year-olds. More about this as it develops. Janet Wilson reported on the activities of the Children’s Church. They continue to present the children with inspiring materials. In addition to the lessons, it sounds like Mother’s Day was very special as the children prepared gifts to take home with them. Molly Nelson reported on Unitic activities and by all appearances, they are enjoying a variety of activities and fellowship.
Beth Schecher reported on her assessment of our facilities. We called it First Contact. We are interested in how newcomers and first-time visitors might see the facility. In general she reported things are looking pretty good. We have had many improvements and continue to look for others to make all the way from signage to how the phone is answered. If you have any thoughts about anything that would improve appearances, communications, etc. please contact me or any member of the Board with your thoughts. You can also always drop a note in the collection basket. Pen and note paper are on the backs of the chairs.
I will not take up space here to list upcoming events but please consult our calendar and look at the web site on-line for more information. By the way, comments about the web site and how it is to use it would be welcomed as well. Give it a go at www.unitytucson.com.
