Tpnrty Smfrtdpm

By Larry Swartz

Years ago, in the late 50’s when there was a military draft, after a semester in a local Junior College and wanting a break from school, I enlisted in the Air Force before the Army got me. After basic training in Texas and technical training at Scott Air Force Base outside of St. Louis, I was assigned to McCord Air Force Base near Tacoma and then spent my final year on Kwajalein, a little island on the southern tip of the Marshall Island chain in the central Pacific. It was a crescent shaped island, and if one were to walk from one tip to the other it was about 3 miles. It had an inlet through the coral reef and cargo ships could find mooring. It was basically a Naval base and a developing site that would be part of the Pacific missile testing range. The Air Force also had a contingent on the island that was being phased out, so when it came time for me to get on a plane that would take me to Travis Air force Base north of San Francisco and discharge, there were not too many Air Force personnel left.

It was a wonderful year. I played a lot of pinochle, got a pretty good tan, and in my off hours took a year of Karate and worked my way up from slinging hash on a grill, to shakes and sundaes at the fountain, next was the kitchen and then night manager of the one and only snack bar on the island. I actually made more money there than in the Air Force which back then didn’t pay much at all. This enabled me to purchase a number of things having military BX access to the best of what was available in the Pacific rim. A strand of graduated Mikimoto pearls probably was under $50, a Rolex watch maybe $250 and a service for 12 of Noritake china about $200. I had a very good year as did my mother. Mary Ellen now has the pearls, china and more from this era of my life.

In the military my job was classified as a Personnel Specialist. It was a natural for me for I could type very well before entering the Air Force, and generally we kept office hours, if even that, especially toward the end of my year. One of my responsibilities both at McCord and then on Kwaj, as we called it, was the Morning Report. This is a daily report that filtered upward to someplace that kept track of people coming and going, who was on leave or even AWOL and more. It was demanding as the orders that brought someone in or out of our unit had to be typed letter perfect on a manual typewriter with carbon copies. Many a Morning Report was typed a number of times before I would present it to an officer for signature.

Saying this, I once was in the process of making an entry that acknowledged an individual’s assignment to us, and had my fingers on the wrong keys, so we now had as an active member of my squadron Tpnrty Smfrtdpm.obviously a Turkish lad or perhaps from some other even smaller region of our globe. And, no one caught it until much later when as another report was compiled it was obvious that no one had seen this person anywhere or for that matter doing anything-again, toward the later months of my Kwaj adventure that would include just about everyone.

Recently I again thought of Tpnrty Smfrtdpm and smiled as I allowed his “creation” by me to be analogous to the other times when I do something very similar in my life. With his “creation” my fingers were on the wrong keys, and rather than add Robert Anderson to the Morning Report of active personnel, I added Airman Smfrtdpm. So, being the fantastically astute individual that I really am.it taking almost only 50 years to have this logic gell.I recently began to contemplate how many other times I do something similar in my life by, not with fingers placed on a physical keyboard as much as the “fingers” of my habitual patterns of thought being allowed to dwell on the “keys” or choices that will not bring into focus the good, happy, positive and fantastic things I want to do, be or have.

Because life is consciousness, we are the creators of our own brand of reality that is evidenced by everything that is presently in our lives. The Law of the workings of Consciousness, sometimes called the Law of Attraction, is the universal “project manager” and unerringly brings into our lives a match to what we, through our placing the “fingers” of our minds on habitual patterns of thought that are a match for events, people and things that form our lives. Everything in our lives right now is there because there is a vibrational match held by us that supports it. We can’t turn it on and off, it can be said, like gravity, to work 24/7/365. Isn’t it becoming more and more clearly evident that the further we understand what can be called the rules of the game of life, the more we can benefit from consciously choosing to place the “fingers” of our concentrated thought on the right keys, or things that will benefit us.things we want more of?

Who or what does Tpnrty Smfrtdpm represent in our lives? If the basic premise for the journey is joy-for could God or Source create a vale of tears?-then he represents sorrow. If the basic premise for the journey is wellness and life-for could God or Source champion the reality of death or cessation?-then he represents fear and suffering. If the basic premise for the journey is abundance and undiminished supply-for could God or Source be the “Captain” of a Ship that has an empty hold?-then he represents poverty, lack and not-enough-ness. All because we have placed the “fingers” of our concentrated thought on things.all because we make a habit of stirring around in.things that in our moments of sanity we would never want to see replicated in our lives.

Tpnrty Smfrtdpm, once brought onboard as we expand our analogy, unlike a singular someone in the military who transfers in to a different duty station, brings a whole host of others with him, in fact he instinctively sends the equivalent of email-like bursts out to everyone, or better said, everything whatsoever that is on the same frequency as is his vibratory signature, hence here is where we now attract and experience fear and suffering, poverty, lack and not-enough-ness, death and cessation.

Now the good news. Tpnrty Smfrtdpm and his cronies can only remain as long as we continue to allow the “fingers” of our habitual patterns of thought to dwell on the wrong “keys” of choices to beat the drum of, or stir around in, anything that fans the flame of unworthiness, telling it like it is-itis, why another is wrong, or cutsie phrases that try to mask underlying attitudes of resistance to people or things that are not even in our immediate space. How can we become aware of the times we are doing this? We don’t feel good about that moment, for we innately feel the non-alignment between us and our Higher Presence who will never join us in these thoughts and think them with us.

Robert Anderson, was the correct spelling for the Morning Report had my fingers been properly positioned. For this article he further represents a total willingness on our part to be accurate in allowing all the wonderful things that we have asked for-all the things we want to do, be, experience or have to flow into our lives. How? By a commitment (for now we understand the law of mind action, called Consciousness, called the Law of Attraction) to be watchful that we are giving far more energy to how we want things to be, spending less and less time in a focus on what is, for that which we focus our thinking energies upon is like asking for more of it. So, if I can’t say anything good, positive, beautiful and true about something, to then at least start this shift in consciousness by saying nothing, and to then as a conscious act bring the focus to what can be held in mind as positive, happy and wonderful. If it feels good, it is good. If it feels bad, it isn’t a drum we want to continue to beat.

Then to purposefully begin to benefit from the attraction energies within words like, “Things always work out for me,” and “I’m always in my right place at the right time,” and “My good can never be shortchanged or depleted.” Here our Higher or God-Self will join in these energies and we will begin to get an emotional response or feedback of not something that feels bad, but things that feel good like happy shivers of anticipation and joy.indications that we are on the right track to soon only have as a distant memory-oh, what’s his name? Now it doesn’t even matter for it was just a brief encounter with choices I made before I realized the magnitude of the Law of Consciousness.the Law of Attraction.that dispassionately, and unerringly manages everything in my life 24/7/365.

Children’s Church

By Janet Wilson, Director

Children on the Quest is a curriculum designed for ages 5 through 11. We are currently exploring these lessons in our classes for 1st and 2nd grade and with the older students in grades 3 through 5. The curriculum includes Children’s literature in addition to Bible stories or verses. Our children are attracted to the combination. The materials lend themselves to every day applications of Unity principles. Concepts are presented in a simple, understandable manner. We encourage discussion, questions, and are often amazed with the creative thinkers developing at Unity.

Families from our Youth Education Program gathered the first Sunday of April to share bagels and donuts and meet one another. We will continue to meet the first Sunday of each month at 10:15 am in the pre-school room adjacent to the playground.

Parents attending are interested in meeting other families who are expressing Unity principles in their own lives and sharing them with their children. We want to provide a wonderful support system for families with opportunities to learn, grow and have fun together. Our next 2 meetings will be May 4th and June 1st. Please join us.

Kid’s Camp, a fun and spiritual Unity Camp for students who have graduated from grades 2-5, will be held near Wrightwood, California from June 22nd - 26th. Some of the activities included are archery, canoeing, swimming, morning chapel, vespers, campfires, arts and crafts. Camp can offer a memorable, life changing experience for children.

Complete information regarding Kid’s Camp has been distributed to many Unity families. The deadline for qualified registrations is May 16th and will be accepted on a space available basis. If you have not received the information and are interested, please contact Janet Wilson at 749.9009 or jwils@att.net.

Bookstories

by Sammie Alijagic

“Joy, joy, joy. I LIKE to feel joy. It is a good feeling. I like my mom to feel joy. I respect her hard work. So joy is good for her, too.

“Here is an example about joy. I did some things with my friends the other day, we laughed and it was joy for all of us. It was good to have joy with all of my friends. They agreed.
But my mom did not. Now my mom feels mad, mad, mad. And I will have no more joy for at least two weeks. And that is why I am writing this paper. It brings my mother joy to make me do it. So maybe I can return to joy feelings with my friends again real soon. Then my friends will feel joy. And I will feel joy. And my mom will feel joy. She is the most important person in the world. So I do not feel joy when she is sad.”

Writing essays was a part of my children’s “groundation” punishment. The above represents but one-fourth of an essay my younger wrote after one of her escapades. We lived very close to the beach in Venice, California, and Escapades was her middle name. But, my point is, she was a bright ninth-grader and wrote with this incredible redundancy for three pages. joy, joy, joy.

The topic was chosen by her by pulling a card from “The Angel Cards.” They are about 50 little cards 2 « x _ inches, each with one word on them. I made her pull three, and write three pages on each. Trust me, each was as redundant as the other.

The other day I revisited this memory. That’s because I re-read what I wrote for last issue’s Expanding Horizons. I must have used the term “point-of-view” four dozen times. I don’t know - I was too appalled to read it twice and count it up. It could have been five dozen. I wasn’t trying to pull one over on anyone, as my little angel-child did way back in ninth grade, but it sure sounded like it! Admittedly, though, “Bookstories” last issue was written as if I were a procrastinator!

So, let me have another go at my point:

Points of view expressed, contemplated and shared are an important way to develop introspective opinions. Expressing ourselves helps us to be understood, and we extend the courtesy to listen to others. This allows us ever greater opportunities to let spiritual energy encompass us. The Unity Metaphysical Bookstore, and this was my point last issue, houses about 3500 Points of View. They are based on New Thought. Topics of Wellness, Self-Empowerment, Holistic Lifestyles, Spiritual Wisdoms fill up the floors and rafters. And that is very cool. It’s beautiful in the bookstore, too.

And those Angel Cards my daughters had to write essays from? They have been re-issued in beautiful gift packaging. They are called, “The Original Angel Cards.” Each daughter got that as a gift this year. I believe, if you give yourself a gift of them, you, too, will feel joy when you look at them, joy when you think about them. Joy is good. Joy is nice to spread.

Thank you for Being at Unity Metaphysical Bookstore.
